Volksfest is basically large celebrations in Germany held
annually in different cities all over Germany. Most people have probably heard
about Oktoberfest in Münich. This event is the largest Volksfest in Germany and
is held yearly in September/Oktober.
Größte Kirmes am Rhein (Largest funfair by Rhein) is the
name of the third largest Volksfest in Germany and is Düsseldorfs counterpart
to the Oktoberfest in Münich. However unlike Oktoberfest Düsseldorfer Kirmes is
combined with a funfair, so essentially is it a funfair combined with large
beertents and restaurants. By number of visitors Düsseldorfer Kirmes is the
third largest in Germany with 4 million visitors annually (6.5 million in
Oktoberfest). It is held yearly in the third week in July and lasts for 10
days.
Of course we went to this event! Unfortunately I didn't take
too many pictures from this event.
